Jubilee ‘Elizabeth Sponge’ Cake Competition in Knaresborough

Jubilee 'Elizabeth Sponge' Cake Competition

Download and print the leaflet

All are welcome to enter this fun, community competition. Cakes should be generally based on a traditional Victoria Sponge Cake but variations to the recipe (such as different fillings etc) are welcome to create an ‘Elizabeth Sponge’ to celebrate the Jubilee. The finished cake must however be a sponge cake and should not be iced.

Use of local produce (jam from your own raspberries, local eggs, flour etc) is encouraged.

There will be 4 categories:

  • Primary School age or under
  • Secondary School age
  • Over 18s
  • Cakes for Special Diets (e.g gluten or dairy free, vegan)

Saturday 2nd June 2012, the Centre on Gracious Street, Knaresborough.

9.30am Entry – 11am Judging

Cakes will be judged on criteria such as taste, appearance, texture etc and extra points may be awarded for use of local ingredients etc. The judges’ decision is final.

Entries will be accepted on the day; however it would be helpful if you could sign up either on the list in The Bridge at COGS or by emailing Rachel Capstick at rachel@capstickcakes.co.uk to give us an idea of numbers.

Entries should be brought in from 9.30am and judging will begin promptly at 11am so please allow time to register and to display your cake. All entries should be displayed on a plate and should be accompanied by a full list of ingredients so credit may be given for local ingredients, innovative ideas etc.

Presentations will take place following the judging and the cakes will hopefully remain in the church for a short while for viewing.

The Bridge Coffee Bar will be open for morning coffee, snacks and light lunches.

With thanks to Bettys, Fodder, Lavender Tea Rooms, Hirst’s Bakery, Mungo Deli, Cooking Fantastic and other local businesses for their support.
